Looking back, I’d say it’s best to start tasting in the middle then start venturing up and down the price scale. So, something like a Knob Creek isn’t a crazy place to begin: you can find it anywhere and it is full of really classic bourbon characteristics. There’s plenty of time to hunt for rare bottles or skim the bottom shelf later.
